You are invited....

Good morning!

This Saturday (the 4th), Trinity Lutheran has a Christmas Brunch for the ladies of our church.  We’ll have an awesome catered meal, musical entertainment, and two craft projects.  I purchased a table of 10, and have only one ticket left.  The cost is  $10.  If you are interested, please call my cell phone, 419-606-0943.  I’ll sell it to the first taker.

We got the first tree up!  This is my snowman/snow tree in the dining room... "beginning to look a lot like Christmas".

Oops, I did it again....

Hello friend.

Yesterday I thought I was doing so well.  Even though I'm just now mailing my November Hostess Club cards (sorry ladies) I was happy to have stamped a simple December Hostess Club card:

Can you guess what I did wrong?  (Well, normally this wouldn't be "wrong", but it isn't good for a Hostess Club Card.)  The striped "Bridesmaid" card stock is discontinued!  How did I miss the fact that it is not in our current catalog?  Errgghh!  Well, substitute another card stock, and it will still be a pretty card....  Add to that the fact that there is a quality control issue with the Ornament punch, and I suppose this was NOT a good card to send now.

Back to the drawing board to figure out what this month's card really will be!

Hey, remember me?

Hello friend!

Well, either you are back from Black Friday shopping, or (like me) you never left your house… but here is a wonderful opportunity for you to get great deals on Stampin’ Up’s products, at up to 50% off!  Go to my web page:  www.wendy.stampinup.net and click on the “ONLINE SPECTACULAR” link.  You’ll find great discounts on products and our Demonstrator Starter Kit.

There are all kinds of great deals, including 50% off on our fabrics!  I’m heading there now… but first I must show you this card.  A while back I posted a card I copied from my upline, Christine Vidourek.  At the time I could not find her original.  This morning I cleared about 500 old e-mails out of my in-box, and look what I found!
Since I was relying on memory when I made my card they are rather different, but each great in their own way.  Maybe it is better to copy without the original, so that you can make it your own!

Halloween.... finally!

Hello friend!

In August, I started this wall quilt.  Plenty of time to finish before Halloween, right?  (wrong)  I just got it finished last night, in time for it to hang all of about 3 hours on Halloween.  Oh well, guess I'll have it for next year!
(size: 42 inches X 15 inches)

The letters and prairie points were all cut with the Big Shot.  If you look closely,  you can see the spider (made of beads) in the right- hand corner, and the spider web quilting--which was inspired by our Spider Web Embossing Folder for the Big Shot.  I also added beads on the web, so as you walk past you see the light glinting off the web.

Now, on to November and December stuff!  I have an idea in my head for a turkey quilt block with the Big Shot.  Actually, I'm thinking it might be a fun "first" block to teach... care to come over and sew?  What I should just do is look at my calendar and set a date.... and get the idea out of my head and onto fabric!  :)

Announcing.... the next Overnight Scrap & Stamp!

Hello friend!

Finally, I've got dates set for the next Overnight Scrap & Stamp... and I've extended the hours!  Yippee!  We'll be back at the Holiday Inn Express on Friday, February 25, from 4:00 p.m. to Saturday, the 26th at 10:00 p.m.!  More details will follow, but my goal is to keep the price as close to last year's overnight as possible.  And remember, there is only space for 24.... so mark your calendar and start making plans!

Here's a card I made after I borrowed a Lattice die (see page 206 of the Idea Book) from Deb Loyd.  (Thanks, Deb!)  This is another die I think I will "have" to have.  The card was copied from one my upline, Chris Vidourek, sent in an e-mail--and I'd love to show you Chris's version, but I must have deleted that message.  If my memory serves me, this is fairly close to the original.

Have a great day!

Happy Birthday, Grover!

Hello friend!

The other day, Hannah sent me this link of a video spoofing those Old Spice commercials that I think is pretty funny.  (I'll admit it, Grover is pretty much my favorite of the Sesame Street characters--how can you resist Super Grover, "The Monster in the Mirror", or such a literary classic as "The Monster at the End of this Book"?)  So of course I decided to try making a Grover card with the Big Shot....  While looking for a photo of him, I ended up on Wikipedia--and there I learned that today is Grover's birthday!

Happy Birthday, Grover!
To make the ovals for his mouth and eyes I dug out my Coluzzle.  Pacific Point didn't seem the right blue, so I dug out some old Brilliant Blue for his head.  His nose probably should be more like the old Pink Passion, but here I used Regal Rose.

I should photograph the Elmo cards I made for last week's craft show, and post those another day.  :)

Lots of info... quick post!

Hello friend!

So much has happended, and I need to fill you in!  First off, thanks to all of you for your prayers.  Dad's surgery went well, and my mom got out of the hospital on Friday.  She goes back for more tests, but I have a positive feeling about this.

I picked some of the last tomatoes the other day to make a batch of salsa... and got to wondering about "fried green tomatoes".  You've probably seen the movie, but have you eaten them?  I never had, and since I have tons of green tomatoes left, I wondered what they are like.  If you have a favorite green tomato recipe, please share!  (and if you want some green tomatoes, please stop by and take them.)

This is a card I took yesterday to the craft show... and I'm just realizing I never really talked about it here.  I'll be sure to invite you next year.  (I have a friend who owns a one-room schoolhouse, and we had a small craft show there yesterday. What a beautiful day to be there!)

.
Here is another card for the craft show.  This is one I started playing with at the end of the Scrap & Stamp last week.  (I'd show you photos of the All Day Scrap & Stamp on the 2nd, but I forgot to take pictures!  We had a GREAT time, though)

The spider comes from the Dark & Dreary set in the Holiday Mini.  I'm  totally loving those stamps, and when you can add brayering, sponging, and DSP... well, that's just going to be one of my all-time favorites!  :)  The "ribbon" is actually a torn strip of fabric--one of my favorites that I'm using on my Halloween wall quilt.  It reminds me a little of eyeballs....

Enough for now.  Will try not to let it take so long to post again.

Thanks for stopping by!

Fabric + Big Shot = Birthday Quilt!

Hello friend!

This was a fun wall quilt I made this summer... and didn't hang until this month because I was waiting for one of my family members to have a birthday.  (It hangs in September for both Tim and I!)  The letters are all cut with the Serif Essentials Alphabet (item #113464), and the cupcake "tops" are half of the Scallop Circle die (#113468).

Here's a close-up so hopefully you can see the extra fun I added:  beads and glitter!  I started with a Chunky glitter (now retired), but it didn't seem quite right.  When I added Dazzling Diamonds glitter, it just seemed to pull it together!  The photos don't do it justice, I'm afraid--you have to see it in person to get the color and that sparkle.

When I bound the quilt, I wanted to add prairie points, and the Big Shot came to my rescue because I cut them with the Scallop Square die (#115950).  Currently I am piecing a Halloween wall quilt, and I'm going to add prairie points to that one as well.

Would you like to learn more about using the Big Shot to quilt?  Stop by my house Saturday, September 25, between 9:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. for a relaxed and casual Fabric Open House.  I'll have fabric projects on display, and you can play around with cutting fabric with the Big Shot.  Even if you are not a sewer, you'll be impressed, and I can show you "no-sew" or "little-sew" fabric projects, too!

See you Saturday!

Spiderman!

Hello friend!

The new Holiday Mini Catalog is available, and you'll find the link up on the right.  This catalog is larger than our previous mini's, and there are so many wonderful things inside that I think Stampin' Up should put a "warning" or "danger" sticker on the front cover, because (if you are like me) you can fill a large wish list from this book!

Last week was my brother's birthday, and this is the card I made for him:

Spiderman was cut from the cover of an old coloring book, and the spider web was made with the Spider Web Textured Impressions Embossing Folder from page 6 of the Holiday Mini Catalog.  I'm LOVING this folder for the Big Shot, and as you can see, it isn't just for Halloween!  (Between gifts, cards, napkins, balloons, etc., Mark had Batman, Ironman, Aquaman, Spiderman and Superman there.  Doesn't every 44-year-old need a superheroes birthday party?)

Three weeks from today is my All Day Stamp & Scrap at the Holiday Inn Express in Ashland.  The cost is $25, and we'll have a marvelous time!  What are you waiting for?  Get your registrtion to me so you can join the fun.  ( and if you need a copy of the registration, I'll e-mail it to you.)

what a week... how have you been?

Hello friend!

Well, the kids are back to school--with the exception of Hannah.  We'll take her back next week.  Maybe now things will get into a "normal" routine.  (But then, the tricky part is how do I define "normal"?)  :)

This card is a fun one.  You probably know I've been enjoying quilting this year--especially using the Big Shot machine.  So when I saw a "quilt" card like this, I knew I had to try it!  I liked it so much that my card club(s) in September will be making one that is similar.

This year I'm trying something new with one of my card clubs... they are meeting every-other-month.  They thought that it would still give them the fun, but also help them economize.  We're still working out the details, but I think it will be a good thing.  Does this sound like something you'd enjoy?  If so, let me know!

While I mentioned quilting, I'd also like to invite you to come here to learn more about how to use the Big Shot to quilt.  (whether you own the Big Shot or not)  If you'd be interested in learning more, just let me know.  I'm still working out a date for this class.

For that matter, what else would you like to learn about?  I would love to hear from you.

A reminder...

Hello friend!

When Stampin' Up renovated our colors this summer, they were kind enough to create Color Kits for us (thank you!) so that we do not have to purchase entirely new sets.  This is the Stampin' Pastels Color Kit.  It includes the new case and the 19 colors that didn't come in pastels previously:

The only downside I can see to this is that when I started putting my old pastels in (after I took the photo)  they looked "yucky" compared to the new ones!   I know, I know, they still work.....

Well, this is your last minute warning on the Summer Mini Catalog.  As the saying goes, all good things
must end--of course that doesn't make it easy!  Here is a card using some of my favorite products
from the Summer Mini, the Tropical Party stamp set and Island Oasis Designer Series Paper:
Remember, you may only order from this catalog until August 31, so don't miss out on these great items.

(Of course, I also must admit that the Holiday Mini that starts on September 1 is amazing, so we will probably survive the change!)

A "do-nothing" kind of day...

Hello friend!

Actually, is it possible to have a "do-nothing" kind of day, but be busy also?  That's what today is for me.  I watched an episode of Bones (can't wait for the new season), and I've been sewing and reading, too.  (Reading "Sense and Sensibility and Sea Monsters.  Utterly silly, and who knows what Jane Austen would have thought, but I'm enjoying it!)  Before you think I've been a total bum, I've also done some laundry, and donated some clothes to a local charity.  Hmmm.  I guess it is a busy day after all.  Let me show you what I've been doing before today....

This is photo with quite a story.  As many of you know, my dad was in the hospital and extremely ill back in May, but we were lucky and the Lord allowed him to stay with us.  Since then, he tends to be cold and get cold easily.  Hard to believe with this hot July, but true.  Natalie and my mom and I went to the Old Uniontown Quilt Guild's show on July 3, and a lovely lady gave Natalie a fabric packet of pre-cut squares.  She immediately decided she would make Grandpa a quilt, and this is the result!  I'm very proud of the way she stuck to her project, and finished it in less than four weeks.  I helped her with the rotary cutting, and the binding, but this was her project, and she did most everything else with basic guidance.

She put this label on the back:

Labeling my quilts is something I have been very bad at remembering.... need
to be sure to remember from now on!

Well, I've been stamping, too, of course!  My friend Bonita had a workshop the other day, and this is one of the projects the attendees made:

That lovely blended center is made with the Presto Patterns Specialty Paper, found in the Mini Catalog and in the Idea Book & Catalog.  LOVE IT!  If you'd like to make this 8 x 8 inch page with me, get  yourself invited to an upcoming party, or (even better) you can schedule your own.  I'd love to show this to you.

Close up on the little bird.  This punch is too much fun.

Natalie's not the only one who's been quilting.  I made this wall-hanging earlier this month, but never showed it to you.  This uses one of my favorite dies, the Bigz Flower.

Here is a close up on one of the flowers.

This summer-y one was fun to put together, and I'm starting to quilt my next piece.    In fact, I think I'll go do some quilting now, while I have the house to myself and everything is quiet.

Thanks for stopping here, and I'll talk to you soon!

Working on it...

Hello friend!

Well (I say with a big sigh), I did it.  See the new header at the top of my blog?  I made that with My Digital Studio.  It is quite an accomplishment, because I am not a computer-oriented person.  Luckily, someone shared an awesome tutorial by Debbie Rippentrop, or I NEVER would have finished this.

http://debbisdesign.com/Stamping/Pages/Tutorials/BloggerBanner.htm

When I bought My Digital Studio, it wasn't with the idea that I would replace my scrapbooking with digital, but I do think it would be cool to do some this way.  Just think, if you are on a long car ride, or in a place where you simply can't carry lots of scrappin' supplies, you could still scrap--all you need is a computer!  I just need to wrap my brain around it all, and say, "Thanks!" to anyone who can give an awesome tutorial like this!

This and that...

Last week I had a video class, and the scallop border on the flower is one of the ideas I shared.

This one is the actual project they made:

This graduation card goes in the "better late than never" category.  The card was for Beth, the daughter of one of my co-workers.  Beth makes beautiful (and very delicious) cakes, so I made her a cake card for graduation:
These cakes are actually fairly simple to make, and are definitely fun to give!  Care to make one with me?

Trouble on the Horizon...

Yep.

Trouble.... with a capital "T"
and that rhymes with "C"
and that stands for Catalog....

As if I wasn't already in enough "trouble" (as in wanting it all) with the new Idea Book, today I got the Holiday Mini Catalog in the mail.  (One of the perks of being a demonstrator is we see things much earlier, and can even order earlier--customers will get Minis at the end of August.)  Once again, I want it all!

The current Summer Mini Catalog (click on the right to see it) is awesome.  I love the stamps, accessories, and projects.  You'd think they couldn't get much better than this... but they did.  How do they continue to do it?

Anyway.  Back to the current stuff--or not so current, because I want to finish showing you the Hostess Appreciation Brunch photos I took.  One of the really neat things we do at the Brunch is swap.  Here are the ones I received.  I only know creators of a couple--so if you know who made them, please let me know and I'll give credit.
My swap.

Made by ?????  (Help!)

Kim Moore, this is yours?

I'm fairly sure this is Mara Morrison's.....

I know that Vickie Swander made this card--she has this beautiful stamp of the letter "V" to
mark the backs of  her cards.

Another one that I know... this is Barb Kohler's card!

I will try to post again tomorrow... I have so much to show you!

Color Revovation Kits!

Hello friend!

One of the things I'm really excited about in our new catalog is the Color Renovation.  That also was a source of frustration for some--until we learned that Stampin' Up was going to provide us with kits to fill out our color collections.   Use this link to see what I mean:

Fun stuff from the Hostess Appreciation Brunch!

Hello friend!

Last week I told you how great the brunch was--now I'm finally going to show you some of it!  There were 10 of of there--8 hostesses, 1 downline, and me.  While I was a little disappointed my numbers dropped this year, it was good for the attendees because they had more chances at door prizes!  Let me show you what everyone else missed.

This year, they each stamped 2 cards...

Supplies for both cards:
Stamp set:  Because I Care
Inks:  Baja Breeze, Early Espresso, and Old Olive
Card Stock:  Baja Breeze and Very Vanilla
Accessories:  Big Shot with Embossing folders, Blender Pen, Scallop Border and 1/2" Circle punches
Stampin' Dimensionals

I must admit, I CASE'd the color scheme and a lot of the layouts from another demonstrator, Jo-Ann Pullen.

These ladies are in the dark.... but they were making a votive candle holder, so maybe we should
have lit their candles!  (note to self:  remember the flash!)

Not burning...

...burning!

This fun flower was made with metal (aluminum?)  flashing from Home Depot.  I think flashing is used on a roof--but don't ask me how.  All I know is it creates a beatiful candle holder.  And I have another idea for something else with it... need to get on that.  This idea was CASE'd also--but I can't find the demonstrator's name.  (You know who you are.)

There were so many things I didn't take pictures of.  Darn!  My next post will be of the swap cards.

My next video class is this Wednesday, at 7:00 p.m.  I still have room, so if you'd like to attend, let me know right away.   You'll watch two Stampin' Up videos and make two projects based on those videos.

Hello friend!

There is so much to show you, and not much time.   Most importantly, the new catalogs are here! If you pre-ordered or qualified for a catalog, come and get 'em!  (and if you didn't, contact me to see how you can get your hands on one of these beautiful books!)

Next, I have tons to show you from my Hostess Appreciation Brunch!  We have a great time, and I have swaps, prizes, etc. to show.  You'll see those in the next couple of days, so stop back often.

Crumb Cake!

Hello friend!

Today is our final new regular-line color....  Crumb Cake!  (are they hungry at Stampin' Up when they come up with these names?)  The card stock has been in our line for a while--you knew it as our Kraft card stock.  Since it is now a regular-line color, it will also be available in inks, marker, and accessories!

This one, of course, was for my husband for Father's Day.  So nice to be able to stamp in Crumb Cake to match the card stock!

I don't think this really shows the details.  I used the Crumb Cake ink with Blender Pens to color the roses, and then Whisper White and So Saffron on the smaller blossoms.  It is stamped on Very Vanilla, so the white pops nicely--in person, but not in the photo.  Add some sponging and tearing and here you go!

Happy Father's Day!

Crazy for Cajun Craze!

Hello friend!

Today's "color of the day" is Cajun Craze... which I must admit I wasn't sure I liked at first.  Now, I'm a fan.   Let me know what you think:

I've got two photos of this one because when the card was open, you couldn't see the heart on the inside, but when the card was closed flat on the table, I kept getting a shadow....

Strangely enough, this one turned out to be one of my favorites of this entire week.  It is difficult to see the ribbon in the photo.  I just tied black grosgrain across the black card stock and tied a knot.

Both of these cards had to be simple, because when I sat down in the Stamp Cave this morning I only gave myself 25 minutes to stamp.  This afternoon Natalie's friends are coming over for a birthday party, and there are lots of things to prepare.

Have a great Saturday, and be ready for our final "new" regular-line color tomorrow:  Crumb Cake.  This is "the card stock formerly known as Kraft".  I used the Kraft all the time, and now we have inks, marker, and accessories to go with it.  Thank you Stampin' Up!

Fabulous Friday aka Cherry Cobbler Day!

Hello friend!

The news is good!  My 2010/2011 IDEA BOOKS HAVE SHIPPED!  Have you reserved your book yet?  Don't delay, the $5 special is good only until June 30.  Of course, all hostesses and club members always get their book for free from me.

Now for today's samples, which are in today's featured, new regular-line color, Cherry Cobbler.  I must admit that this color was one I wasn't really excited about.  I wondered if we really needed "another" red....

Then I played with it and the answer is YES!  I love this color--it is so rich and, well just plain yummy.   Tell me what you think:

The color in this photo isn't quite right--as if the flash washed out that beautiful red (and some of the other colors, as well)  I CASE'd this idea for the flipping the party hats to make a banner from the new Idea Book.

Stamps:  Party Hearty
Inks:  Cherry Cobbler, Daffodil Delight, Cajun Craze, Always Artichoke, Not Quite Navy, Elegant Eggplant
Card Stocks:  Cherry Cobbler, Daffodil Delight, Cajun Craze, Whisper White
Accessories:  Scissors, Stampin Dimensionals, Anywhere Glue Stick

 Stamps:  Totally Tool
Inks:  Cherry Cobbler, Basic Black
Card stocks:  Cherry Cobbler, Basic Black, Whisper White, Going Gray
Accessories:  Ticket Corner Punch, Black Gingham ribbon (retiring), Craft & Paper Scissors, Stampin' Dimensionals, Anywhere Glue Stick

This one is a secret, because it is a Father's Day card for my dad.  Shhhhh... don't tell!  I've decided that one of the colors I will most miss after the Color Renovation really isn't much of a color at all--Going Gray.  Especially when you pair it with Cherry Cobbler, because these look like Ohio State colors.  Guess I won't be selling off my Going Gray stash after all!  I CASE'd using the measuring tape for the d's on this from another demonstrator.  I just wish I could remember where I saw it, and could give her credit.  Isn't this a fun idea?

Tomorrow's color is Cajun Craze.  Talk to you then!

Hello friend!

This was a great vacation day.  I took Natalie to Bible School, and then went to Green Valley Growers for their 60% off sale.  Love it!  I bought a ton of plants--but only got half of them planted.  I also started a new wallhanging for our dining room (with the Big Shot, of course) and made these cards for you.

Stamps:  Because I Care (new level 1 Hostess set coming in the new catalog!)
Ink:  Marina Mist, Certainly Celery, Old Olive
Card stock:  Whisper White, Marina Mist, Early Espresso
Accessories:  Scallop Trim Border Punch, AquaPainter, Stampin' Dimensionals

Stamps: Just Because I Care
Inks:  Marina Mist Early Espresso
Card stocks:  Very Vanilla, Marina Mist, Garden Green
Accessories:  Scissors & Stampin' Dimensionals

Daffodil Delight Wednesday!

Hello friend!

Today I'm featuring our new regular-line color, Daffodil Delight.  My first card is rather special, because today is Natalie's birthday, and I made this card for her:

Stamps:  Party Hearty
Inks:  Early Espresso
Card stocks:  Daffodil Delight, Old Olive, Whisper White, Regal Rose, Melon Mambo
Accessories:   Big Shot, Flower Clear Die, Perfect Polka Dots Embossing Folder, Melon Mambo ribbon, Scallop Punch, Stampin' Dimensionals

(Want to learn how to make this cool scallop border?  This is one of the techniques you'll learn at my Video Class on July 7!)

Here's some more Daffodil Delight, in a card I made for a friend:

Stamps:  Friends 24/7, All Holidays

Inks: Daffodil Delight, Marina Mist
Card stocks:  Daffodil Delight, Marina Mist, and Whisper White
Accessories: Big Shot, Manhattan Flower Embossing Folder, Beautiful Wings Embosslit Die, Stampin' Dimensionals, Dazzling Diamonds Glitter, Half Pearl, Multipurpose Liquid Glue

These new colors will be available July 1, in the 2010/2011 Idea Book & Catalog.  Contact me to reserve your copy  here.
